Box Score MARQUETTE, Mich. – Suffering their fourth shutout of the season, the University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team fell 4-0 to Northern Michigan on Saturday night at the Berry Events Center.
The Chargers (0-12-0, 0-8-0 WCHA) showed better energy and competed at another high level as they did a night ago, but the Wildcats (6-5-1, 4-2-0 WCHA) were too strong for UAH on their home ice in WCHA play.
The hosts scored their first goal at 19:34 of the first period, after UAH was charged with the hooking penalty to give NMU a power play late in the opening period. CJ Ludwig scored his fifth goal of the season after he fired one past
Carmine Guerriero's glove from just inside the blue line.
After UAH skated fairly even in the beginning of the second period, the Wildcats broke through again at 12:21 to go up 1-0. This time it was Wade Epp scoring the goal, very similar to the first NMU goal after a centering pass to the point that Epp slapped pass Guerriero.
The Wildcats added two more goals in the third period to come away with the four-goal victory.
UAH finished 0-for-2 on the power play, while NMU went 1-for-2. The Wildcats led 33-17 in shots on goal, following a nine-shot first period by UAH.
Guerriero (0-6-0) was tagged with the loss finishing with 29 saves in the game.
The Blue and White will seek their first victory of the season next weekend in Notre Dame as they partake in the 2013 Shillelagh Tournament. UAH will face Notre Dame on Friday at 6:35 p.m. central time and will play either Northeastern or Western Michigan on Saturday at 3:35 p.m.
