Smith Scores 40, UAH and Troy Combine for 221 Points

Box Score TROY, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville and Troy played a terrific college women's basketball game on Tuesday night, lighting up the scoreboard as the host Trojans captured a 118-103 victory at Trojan Arena. The Lady Chargers now sit at 4-1 on the year, while Troy improves to 3-2.

Two players were responsible for nearly 42 percent of the game's total points as Troy's Joanna Harden set a Sun Belt Conference for points in a game with 52, while Jordan Smith registered the fourth-best single-game showing in UAH history with a career-best 40 points.

Smith was 10-for-21 from the floor – including an 8-of-15 performance from beyond the arc – and she connected on all 12 of her free throw attempts on the night.

The 221 combined points is a UAH record, breaking the old mark of 207 when Lincoln Memorial outlasted the Lady Chargers 112-95 on Feb. 2, 1991.

A quick start for Troy provided the hosts with an eight-point advantage at 18-10 of the 14:21 mark, but the Lady Chargers would go on a 16-6 run in next five minutes with a Juanice Newton layup providing her team with a 26-24 advantage.

Troy, however, would outscore UAH 33-17 in the final 9:44 of the half to take a 57-43 lead into the halftime break.

Just over three minutes into the second half, the Trojans would push the lead out to 17 at 73-56, but the Lady Chargers were resilient and would twice close the gap to single digits – first with a Smith triple at the 12:03 mark and again with a Shannon Steinert shot from downtown with 10:17 left in the game.

Harden answered both baskets with points of her own, however, to prevent UAH from narrowing the margin any closer.

Steinert finished the contest with 16 points.

Behind Harden's 18-for-28 performance from the field, the Trojans finished the game shooting 54.7 percent from the floor while limiting UAH to a 31.4 percent shooting mark.

The Lady Chargers will return to action after the Thanksgiving holiday when Judson visits on Tuesday, Dec. 3. Tip-off at Spragins Hall is slated for 5:30 p.m.
