About the Chargers
BACK IN THE POSTSEASON: A year after going 1-15 and not winning a conference game, the Chargers – under the direction of Matt Watts who was hired last winter to turn the program around – have been terrific by going 10-6-1 (8-6 GSC) during the regular season to send UAH back to the conference tournament. Only five players on this year's roster were on the team in 2011 when the squad last made it to Pensacola: Sam Dean, Andrew Ingram, Jason Ruzicka, Kyle Simmons, and Mitch Wilson.
Â
STRONG FINISH: The Chargers wrapped up the season winning five of their final seven games, and the team posted an 8-3 mark after starting out the season 2-3-1. In half of the eight wins, the team scored at least three goals while also posting four clean sheets.
Â
SOARING SIMMONS: Junior forward Kyle Simmons put together a terrific regular season campaign, scoring 15 times and adding three assists to total 33 points to lead the conference in goals, goals per game, points and points per game. The 15 goals marks the highest number scored by a Charger since Lincoln Ziyenge scored 25 in 1996.
About the Opponent
ABOUT THE TIGERS: After stringing together three straight wins in the middle of October, UWA dropped its final two contests of the season – losing 4-2 to Christian Brothers and 3-1 to West Florida to allow UAH to leapfrog the Tigers into the second position in the GSC standings among teams eligible for the postseason.
Â
LEADING UWA: The Tigers are led by GSC Player of the Year Thibault Charmey who scored 10 times and added seven assists to rank third in the league in both goals and points. Vitor Gazza also had a strong campaign as he notched 19 points on the strength of seven goals and five assists. Lavares Stone recorded the majority of the minutes in goal for UWA, registering a 1.11 goals against average and a .791 save percentage.
Series History
The Tigers have taken all four meetings between the two programs including a 3-2 decision in Livingston and a 2-0 victory in Huntsville.
