About the Chargers
WEEKEND RECAP
The Chargers (1-15-0, 1-9-0 WCHA) earned a split this weekend at Bowling Green, winning in dramatic fashion on Saturday with a game-winning goal in overtime with 3.4 seconds remaining. UAH fell 3-0 on Friday before earning a hard-fought 4-3 win on Saturday.
THE GAME-WINNER
Frank Misuraca scored his first goal of the season, the most important goal for UAH so far this year, in overtime of Saturday's game with just 3.4 seconds left. Misuraca was assisted on the goal by
Matt Salhany, who dropped a perfect puck in front of the blue line.
SCORING SALHANY
Matt Salhany played his best game of the season, scoring an unassisted short-handed goal and assisting on two others, including the game-winner. The freshman now leads UAH in points with six on the season.
CAREER FIRSTS
Scoring their first goals of the season on Saturday were
Jack Prince and
Cody Marooney. It marks a career first for both players, scoring their first-ever goals in an NCAA game.
FOUR SCORE
The four goals scored by the Chargers are the most since 2011, when they scored four goals against Bemidji State.
FIRST OF MANY
Mike Corbett got the monkey off his back and picked up his first-ever head coaching victory on Saturday in an exciting 4-3 overtime victory over the Falcons.
GOALTENDING GUERRIERO
Freshman goaltender
Carmine Guerriero earned a career first, as the goalie notched his first-ever victory in overtime fashion. Guerriero saved a career-high 41 shots against Bowling Green, including crucial saves in OT.
WELCOME THE MAVERICKS
UAH will now host Minnesota State this weekend for another challenging WCHA series. The Chargers will host the Mavericks before having a weekend off, followed by a visit to Wisconsin.
ALL-TIME AGAINST MSU
This weekend's series will be the 44th and 45th meeting all-time between the two schools. The teams have played to an even 19-19-5 all-time record against one another. In last year's nonconference meeting, Minnesota State won 4-1 (Oct. 12) before a 2-2 tie on Oct. 13.
PROGRAM'S FIRST
The 4-3 victory over Bowling Green is also the program's first-ever WCHA win. The team earned its first two points in WCHA play, in what hopes to be the first of many.
BALANCED ATTACK
After a solid weekend offensively, 14 players have recorded two or more points this season. Of those 14, seven are freshman.
WCHA PLAY WRAPUP
The final weekend of conference play in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association for calendar year 2013 occurs this Friday and Saturday, December 13-14, when eight teams engage in four two-game series. Bowling Green heads to Michigan Tech, Alabama Huntsville plays host to Minnesota State, Alaska ventures to Bemidji State and Alaska Anchorage entertains Lake Superior State.
THE WCHA PREVIEW...
At Von Braun Center (6600) in Huntsville this weekend, a rejuvenated Alabama Huntsville (1-15-0, 1-9-0 WCHA) club returns home to entertain streaking WCHA opponent Minnesota State (9-7-0, 7-3-0 WCHA), with face-offs set for 7:07 pm CT both Friday and Saturday. The Chargers, who have played just three series at home so far, are coming off their first-ever WCHA victory last Saturday by virtue of a 4-3 (ot) triumph at Bowling Green. The Mavericks are in the midst of five straight victories – all in league play – that have catapaulted them into second place in the conference standings this week and gave them votes in both national polls this week.

AS OF LATE

His goal vs NMU last Friday is his first GWG for 2013-14 and the fifth of his career. Leitner's 22 blocked shots on the season leads MSU forward corps.
Â
MAVERICK'S BEST
Junior F Jean-Paul Lafontaine has 6-6=12 to lead MSU in scoring. Lafontaine, who has 5-3=8 in the last six games, has not missed a game in his three-year MSU career and has played in 95 consecutive games. The Oxford, Mich., native owns 28-47=75 to rank 25th on the school's DI career scoring list.
Series History
It has been a fairly even series over the last 15 years, as the two programs are locked in a 19-19-5 all-time record.
The first-ever meeting came back in 1988, when the Chargers powered past the Mavericks by a final of 5-2. Their most recent meeting came just last year, when the visit from the Mavericks highlighted the light UAH home schedule. MSU won 4-1, before the two teams played to a 2-2 tie on Saturday.
The Mavericks have dominated the last 10 meetings, boasting an undefeated 8-0-2 record. This meeting will be the first of two more later in the year. The two will play in Mankato on Feb. 14 and 15.
