UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Playing in their first game since accepting an invite to join the WCHA, the University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team fell 4-0 to Penn State on Friday night.
UAH (3-18-1) had not played since Jan. 12 in a win over Oklahoma and came out a little rusty against fellow Division I-independent Penn State (11-13-0).
The Chargers played a strong first period against the Nittany Lions, battling a scoreless opening 20 minutes of play, but Penn State jumped on the visitors early in the second period at 1:41.They then added another, this time off a power play, at 15:31 in the second period. UAH would head into the second intermission trailing 2-0.
PSU would add a couple more in the third period to give them the final score of 4-0.
UAH couldn't muster any solid looks against the only other team in Division I without a conference this season and were dealt their 18th loss of the season. Penn State will play in the Big Ten Conference next season in the league's inaugural hockey season, while UAH prepares for life in the WCHA.

The two teams will do battle again tomorrow evening back at Greenberg Ice Pavilion at 6:30 p.m.
