BOX SCORE
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – After battling back throughout the evening, the University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team eventually fell 4-3 to Penn State on Saturday night at the Greenberg Ice Pavilion.
UAH (3-19-1) tied the game at 2-2 and later 3-3, but could not muster up a late goal to make it 4-4 and fell to Penn State (12-13) in the second battle of Division I independents in as many nights.
After falling behind 2-0,
Kyle Lysaght found the back of the net at 17:34 in the second period to cut the Nittany Lion lead in half. Lysaght recorded his fifth goal of the season off an assist from
Michael Webley and
Steven Koshey.
Just 54 seconds into the third period,
Justin Cseter scored the game-tying goal on a power play to make the score 2-2 and put UAH in position to pick up a huge road win. Lysaght was near the scoring puck once again, as he picked up season assist number five along with
Jeff Vanderlugt.
After Penn State scored their third goal of the game at 7:23,
Brice Geoffrion picked a perfect time to score his first goal of the season at 12:20 and made the score 3-3 with just over seven minutes to play.
Anderson White and
Graeme Strukoff were credited with the assists on the score.
Mark Yanis would score the game-winner at 15:33 in the third period and send UAH home 0-2 on the trip to Pennsylvania.
It was a strong performance by the Chargers, as has been the case all year in the second game of back to backs. UAH was shutout last night 4-0, but showed resiliency in battling to a 4-3 defeat on Saturday.
John Griggs recorded 32 saves in the game, but dropped his record to 2-15-1 overall.
The Chargers will wrap up their 2012-13 season on March 1 and 2, when they travel to play Minnesota Duluth. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m.
