UAH Earns 6-3 Victory Over Visiting Delta State

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's tennis team defeated visiting Delta State on Thursday afternoon, winning 6-3 to move to 6-5 (2-2 Gulf South Conference) on the season. The Lady Statesmen slip to 1-6 (0-3 GSC).

“I am really proud of our girls today and the way they competed to win today,” said Head Coach Daniel Finn following the win. While Delta State only had four players, the four they had were good and didn't go away without a fight. Our ladies really hung in there and got this one. I think it really shows the strides they have been making this season.”

The Lady Chargers started the match with three points in hand as DSU did not a field a No. 3 doubles pairing or players at the No. 5 and No. 6 in singles.

The duo of Jessica Groupierre and Katie Bryant provided the team with its fourth point when it was an 8-0 winner at the No. 2 position in doubles, but Delta State would claim an 8-2 victory at the No. 1 position in doubles play.

UAH then needed to just claim one of the four singles matches that would be play, and Groupierre did just that when she captured a thrilling 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 victory at the first position to seal the match for UAH. Maria Lawton provided UAH with its sixth point as she won 6-2, 7-6 (3) at the No. 3.

The Lady Chargers will return to action on Tuesday, April 2, as they travel to Shorter.
