MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's tennis team travelled to Montevallo on Wednesday afternoon, and the Falcons earned a 9-0 win over the Lady Chargers to drop UAH to 7-10 on the season.
“We just didn't execute well and things got away from us quick today,” said Head Coach Daniel Finn following the conclusion of the match. “The beautiful thing of college sports is that tomorrow is another day, and we get a chance to redeem ourselves. The ladies understand this fully, and we will get back to the grind tomorrow."
The shutout was not without close matches for the Blue and White.
At the second position in doubles, the pairing of
Alejandra Pacheco and
Katie Bryant held a 5-4 lead at one point before eventually falling 8-5, and both played tough opponents in singles play and held their own. Pacheco fell 7-5, 6-3 at the fourth position while Bryant fell 6-3, 7-5.
Finn described the effort of the other singles players as strong, also, and only one Montevallo player was able to earn a 6-0, 6-0 shutout.
The Lady Chargers will aim to bounce back on Thursday at Alabama A&M. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., though the forecast does not appear favorable with rain predicted in the area on Thursday.
