Lady Charger Tennis Falls at Shorter

ROME, Ga. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's tennis team played a tough Shorter squad on Tuesday afternoon and fell by an 8-1 score. The setback drops the Lady Chargers to 6-6 overall and 2-3 in Gulf South Conference play. Shorter improves to 10-5 (4-2 GSC).

“Despite the result, I really am proud of the ladies,” said Head Coach Daniel Finn after the match. “They played hard and competed hard, but we just couldn't get it going today against a very good team.”

In doubles play, the No. 3 pairing of Alejandra Pacheco and Brandi Dykes put forth a strong big to earn the point but ultimately fell 8-5, while Lina Carvajal and Maria Lawton were paired at the No. 1 position and fell in a relatively close match by an 8-4 score.

Dykes carried the solid play into singles actions as she won the team's lone point of the match with a decisive 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 6.

At the first position, Jessica Groupierre played strongly in falling 6-4, 7-5.

The squad will look to bounce back when it hosts Christian Brothers on Wednesday at 1 p.m. on the UAH campus.
