MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's tennis team saw it season come to an end on Saturday as the Lady Chargers fell to West Alabama in the quarterfinals of the 2013 Gulf South Conference Women's Tennis Tournament. UAH ends the season at 8-11.
"The women really battled today,” said Head Coach Daniel Finn following the setback. “We knew it would come down to us executing in doubles today. We had moments we tried to make it a match, but we just couldn't get it done today. I know the score may not show it, but we played well and the ladies competed harder than they had all year.”
Despite the loss, Finn was already looking forward to the future for the program.
“It really gives us a good starting base for years to come,” Finn stated. “With the players we have coming back and the talent coming in – there are only good things ahead for this program in the years to come."
The best chance for a point in doubles came at the second position where the pairing of
Jessica Groupierre and
Katie Bryant fought hard before falling 8-5.
Maria Lawton and
Kasi McDonald also put forth a strong effort but ultimately fell 8-4 at the third spot in doubles as UWA grabbed a 3-0 lead.
West Alabama then took the points at the second and sixth positions in singles play to seal the match.
