About the Lady Chargers

OPENING CONFERENCE PLAY: This weekend's contests will mark the opening to Gulf South Conference play for the Lady Chargers. In the preseason poll conducted by the league's head coaches, UAH was picked to finish fourth, and the team will begin conference play at West Georgia who was selected sixth before travelling to Valdosta State who was nearly a unanimous choice to finish second in the GSC.

NO RESOLUTION: The Lady Chargers have played to a pair of draws to open the season, tying Carson-Newman 1-1 on the road before playing a scoreless affair with Lincoln Memorial in the home opener this past Sunday. The team last featured back-to-back ties in the 2011 season, and it is only the third time in program history that UAH has played in consecutive contests that ended deadlocked. The Lady Chargers have never had three straight ties.

NOTHING PAST HERE: In two games and 220 minutes, UAH keeper Iris Gunnarsdottir has only allowed one goal to rank second in the GSC with a goals against average of just 0.41. Since surrendering a goal in the 52nd minute of the season-opening game, the senior has logged 168 consecutive minutes without allowing a ball into her goal. Gunnarsdottir's six saves per game rank second in the GSC, also.

IN THE RANKINGS: With the unbeaten start, UAH appeared in the first edition of the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Women's South Region Poll as the Lady Chargers checked in at No. 10. West Florida was tops in the region rankings, and the GSC was also represented by No. 4 Valdosta State and No. 6 North Alabama.

About the Opponents

ABOUT THE WOLVES: West Georgia sits at 0-3-0 on the year with losses to Nova Southeastern, Barry and Clayton State. The team has just one goal on the season as Cortney Emmert tallied in the 3-1 loss to Barry, and the Wolves were blanked 1-0 by Nova Southeastern and 5-0 to Clayton State. The opposition has outshot West Georgia 67-16 on the season, including a 34-9 advantage in shots on goal.

ABOUT THE LADY BLAZERS: Valdosta State currently sits at 2-0 with a pair of strong in-region wins over Florida Southern and Florida Tech, part of a four-game homestand to begin that season that includes a contest against Union on Friday night to open up GSC play. Olivia Mills has been stellar in goal, not allowing a score in the two contests, and four different Lady Blazers have recorded goals thus far.

Series History

WEST GEORGIA: The all-time series between the two programs is tied at 3-3-2, and the Lady Chargers were 4-1 winners in Carrollton a season ago, part of a 3-0-1 stretch over the last four seasons.

VALDOSTA STATE: VSU is in its third season of women's soccer, and Sunday's hosts have taken both meetings in the brief series – a 2-0 victory in the Rocket City in 2011 and a 1-0 win last year in the Peach State.
