About the Lady Chargers
-The UAH women's soccer team will open the 2013 campaign with high hopes after a solid year in 2012 yielded a 10-10 record and the program's first-ever win in the Gulf South Conference Championships. Head Coach Jimmy Mitchell is in his second year leading the Lady Chargers, and he will look to build upon last year's success with seven returning starters.

-Among the returners for Mitchell is preseason All-GSC selection sophomore Sydnie Fiocca who was named the league's top freshman a season ago. Ranking in the top 10 in the conference in points, points per game, goals, and goals per game, the St. Catharine's, Ontario, native scored nine times last season, and she matched a program record with six game-winning goals.

-Iris Gunnarsdottir returns for her third and final year in goal for the Blue and White. Last season she set four new program records for a goalkeeper in a season including breaking her own mark for most saves as she stopped 122 shots while recording every minute in goal for UAH.
About the Opponent
-Carson-Newman is also opening its season on Friday. The Eagles enter the year ranked ninth in the preseason South Atlantic Conference poll, and the squad is senior-laden with eight players in their final year.

-Tiarna McKenna missed most of last season due to an injury, but she is expected to start in goal for Carson-Newman. In limited action a year ago, she surrendered 10 goals for a 1.45 GAA while recording a save percentage of .722 with 26 stops.

-Head Coach Richard Moodie has supplemented the strong senior class with 13 newcomers who he expects to contribute immediately.
