Juanice Newton poured in a career-high 17 points, and the University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team defeated West Georgia convincingly 82-42 Saturday afternoon at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. The Lady Chargers improve to 9-4 (4-3 Gulf South Conference) while West Georgia slips to 3-10 (1-6 GSC).

Newton shot an efficient 8-for-15 from the field to go along with a game-high 11 boards for her third double-double of the season.

Jordan Smith was right behind Newton with 16 points while dishing out a team-high seven assists.
Jasmine Hammon also scored 16 points as well, and
Halle Jarnagin provided a spark off the bench for the Lady Chargers, tallying a season-high 12 points to round out the leading scorers.

The Lady Charger defense proved to be a nightmare for West Georgia during the contest, holding the Wolves to a season-low 42 points – 17 below their season average of 59 points per game – and UAH forced UWG into 31 turnovers as well while scoring 36 points off of the giveaways.
Shannon Steinert and
Halle Jarnagin both led UAH with four steals.

UAH's effort was especially impressive in the first half with the Lady Chargers limiting West Georgia to just 14 points in the period as the visitors shot just 19.4 percent from the field. UAH hit 40 percent of its attempts in the period, building up a huge 44-14 lead at the halftime break.

For the game, UAH shot 37.7 percent while UWG hit 23 percent of its attempts, and UAH held a 52-51 advantage on the glass.

West Georgia was led by Marion Lemonnier who scored 11 while Ashley Prather grabbed a game-best 12 rebounds.

The Lady Chargers will return to action next Saturday at home when they face off against Lee. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall.
