Box Score HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team dropped a 91-80 decision to visiting Lee on Saturday, slipping to 9-5 (4-4 Gulf South Conference) with the setback at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. Lee improves to 10-4 (6-2 GSC).
Â
The Lady Chargers once again were led by the senior duo of
Jordan Smith and
Jasmine Hammon as the pair combined for 53 points with 27 and 26, respectively. Smith recorded 15 of her points from downtown as she buried five triples, while Hammon earned multiple trips to the charity stripe and went 11-of-14 at the line.
Â
Shannon Steinert also scored in double figures for UAH as she finished the game with 10.
Â
UAH started strong and led through much of the first 10 minutes of the opening half, including an early five-point advantage that would be the largest of the night for the hosts, but Lee would control the final 10 minutes, outscoring UAH 26-13 en route to a 44-32 advantage at the half.
Â
The lead would grow to as large as 21 as Lee led 55-34 after a Hollie German 3-pointer made it 55-34 at the 16:35 mark of the second half, but the Lady Chargers did not go down quietly and would close the gap to just eight at 81-73 with just under three minutes remaining. Lee connected on eight free throws and added a layup down the stretch, however, to thwart the UAH comeback effort.
Â
German led all scorers in the contest with 38, while her teammate Jenna Adams also broke the 30-point plateau with 33, registering a double-double as she also grabbed 12 rebounds. Both hit six 3s to give Lee 12 on the night.
Â
For the contest, Lee connected on 47.3 percent of its attempts while UAH shot 33.8 percent, and the Lady Flames outrebounded the Lady Chargers by a 49-36 clip.
Â
The Lady Chargers will aim to bounce back from the setback on Thursday when they travel to Union ahead of Saturday's rivalry contest at North Alabama.
