About the Chargers

WEEKEND WRAPUP
The Chargers picked up their first point since Dec. 7 in their previous series, finishing in a 1-1 tie with Alaska Anchorage. UAH fell on Saturday by a final score of 4-1. Friday's tie snapped an eight-game losing streak.

FLETCHER'S FIRST
Freshman Brent Fletcher scored his first career goal on Friday, which tied the game at 1-1 and gave us the final score. Fletcher has appeared in all 26 games so far this season and tallied his fourth point of the year on the goal.

KOSHEY KICKING IT
Steven Koshey notched his fifth assist of the season and sixth point overall on the Fletcher goal, after he registered the secondary assist by pushing the puck up the ice. It was his first point since the Dec. 4 victory over Bowling Green.

SIMPLY SALHANY
Matt Salhany continued his strong freshman season, picking up his ninth and 10th points of the season this weekend. Salhany assisted on Fletcher's goal on Friday to tally his ninth point, then scored the team's lone goal on Saturday to record his 10th point. He leads the team in points overall and ranks in the top 15 of the WCHA in freshman scoring.

CATCHING FROM CLOWES
Brandon Clowes picked up his fourth assist of the year on Saturday, as he was the primary assist man on Salhany's goal in the third period. It was Clowes' fifth point of the season in his freshman year and his first point since before the New Year.

PASSING PIERCE
Craig Pierce tallied his third assist of the season and third point overall. The junior picked up the secondary assist on Salhany's goal Saturday and it was his first point since Dec. 4.

About Alaska  (courtesy of UAF Sports Information)

The Nanooks (10-12-4, 7-11-2 WCHA) are coming off a home split against Bemidji State (Jan. 24-25) and remained in a three-way tie in the league standings with Lake Superior State and Michigan Tech at 16 points.

Should Alaska earn its first WCHA sweep of the year, it could mathematically move up as high as tied for fifth with Bemidji State, depending on the outcomes of the two other series going on as Michigan Tech is at Bowling Green and Minnesota State heads to Northern Michigan. The top-eight teams will advance to the WCHA playoffs, which begin March 14 at the top-four seeds.

Kunyk's goal Friday moved him to 116 career points on 51 goals and 65 assists, which ranks 19th all-time on the program's career scoring list. He currently ranks third in WCHA scoring with 26 points (13-13—26) and is tied for second with 13 goals.

Series History

This weekend marks the first meeting between the Nanooks and Chargers in over two decades as the last game took place Dec. 11, 1992 – a 6-1 Alaska win in Fairbanks. Alaska leads the all-time series which dates back to 1987 by a 12-6-1 margin and is 7-3-0 on home ice. It has won five straight against UAH with the last Chargers win coming back on Jan. 19, 1992 (6-1 in Huntsville).
