Chargers Visit Northern Michigan for Weekend Series

About the Chargers...

LAST WEEK: UAH is now 0-6-0 overall and 0-4-0 in the WCHA following two losses at Minnesota State this past weekend. The Chargers fell 3-1 on Friday in Mankato, and capped off the weekend with a 4-1 loss to the Mavericks on Saturday. UAH is 0-6-0 in the last three series against Minnesota State.

SECONDS: Freshman Max McHugh's goal in the third period on Friday at MSU was the first goal scored outside of the second period for the Chargers this season. To date, UAH has notched zero goals in the first, seven in the second and one goal in the third period. The Chargers are tied for third in the WCHA for most goals scored in the second period.

GUERRIERO SHINES: Carmine Guerriero (Montreal, Quebec) had a season-high 54 saves in Friday night's matchup against No. 12 Minnesota State. The sophomore's .927 save percentage was his best of the season and his highest mark since totaling .942 against Bemidji State last season (Oct. 26, 2013). Guerriero's 54 saves on Friday were the most by a UAH goalie this season.

POINTS LEADER: Sophomore Brandon Carlson (Huntington Beach, Calif.) leads the Chargers with four points (2g-2a) so far in the 2014-15 campaign. Carlson assisted McHugh's goal on Friday for his second of the season. Earlier this year at Colorado College (Oct. 11), Carlson notched three points on two goals and an assist.

DEFENSE IMPROVING: This season the Chargers have allowed 23 goals in six games, good for a 3.83 goal against average. UAH has improved on that standing since last season, when the squad averaged 4.5 goals against after 27 goals through the first six contests.

About the Wildcats...

NORTHERN MICHIGAN PROFILE: NMU comes in to the non-conference series with a perfect 4-0-0 record following series sweeps of Wisconsin (Oct. 17-18) and Lake Superior State (Oct. 24-25). Against LSSU, the Wildcats scored seven goals compared to the Lakers' two and also shutout Lake Superior State, 3-0, in te series finale. Northern Michigan received 56 votes in this week's USCHO poll.

KEY PLAYERS: Sophomore goalie Mathias Dahlstrom has recorded two shutouts this season and boasts a goal against average of 0.75 with a .968 save percentage, which ranks the best in the WCHA. Darren Nowick leads NMU with four goals and five points. Nowick recently scored two goals against LSSU.

MATCHUP HISTORY: The Chargers own a 0-7-1 all-time series record against Northern Michigan and a 0-4-0 record when visiting Marquette, Michigan. The Wildcats had the upper hand in the 2013-14 season, winning all four matchups. UAH was outscored 16-3 in four games against NMU last year.
