About the Chargers...

THE HERD AT USAFA: The Chargers picked up their first win of the season at Air Force by a score of 4-2 last Friday night, and followed the opening win up with a 3-3 tie on Saturday to complete the squad's first unbeaten weekend of the season.

UNBEATEN WEEKEND: UAH went undefeated in a weekend series for the first time since the 2012-13 season, when the team defeated Finlandia (Dec. 7-8) in consecutive games at home by scores of 5-2 and 4-1. The previous unbeaten weekend against a Division I opponent goes back to the 2009-10 season when UAH clipped Niagara at home in consecutive games (Jan. 29-30).

TOP NEWCOMER: Freshman Brennan Saulnier earned WCHA Rookie of the Week honors after helping UAH to a 4-2 victory at Air Force with two assists during the game for the first time in his collegiate career. The Halifax, Nova Scotia native assisted on UAH's first goal of the game to tie the contest 1-1, then aided in the game-winning goal as the Chargers earned their first victory of the season.

PUSHING THE TEMPO: The Chargers offense was electric last weekend, posting seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points in two games.  UAH's total of 18 points is the highest mark in a two-game stretch for the Chargers this season. Senior Craig Pierce led the offense with two goals, both on Saturday, while five other Chargers scored one goal apiece. Alex Carpenter, Jack Prince and Saulnier each registered two assists over the weekend.

GETTING THE FIRST: Sophomore Carmine Guerriero picked up his first win of the 2014-15 campaign on Friday night, following a 24-save performance at Air Force. Guerriero had a .934 save percentage in the game, his second straight contest with a save percentage of .930 or better. This season he leads the Chargers goaltending core with a 2.57 goals against average and ranks 12th in the nation with a .934 save percentage.

FRESHMEN IMPRESS: Second-year head coach Mike Corbett's first full recruiting class is impressing on offense, as five of the six freshmen that receive significant playing time have recorded points. Brandon Parker (0-4--4) and Saulnier (1-3--4) lead the Chargers newcomers in points, followed by Josh Kestner (2-1--3), Max McHugh (2-1--3) and Cody Champagne (1-1--2).

About the Lakers...

MATCHUP HISTORY: The Chargers welcome the Lakers for the second home series of the season at the VBC Propst Arena. UAH holds a 2-5-1 record against LSSU, with the last matchup occurring in the 2013-14 season resulting in a 3-2 loss for UAH. Matt Salhany and Jeff Vanderlugt scored goals in the contest.

RECENT ACTION: With no games last weekend, Lake Superior State's last contest was a 3-2 overtime victory on Nov. 1 over Alaska Anchorage by a score of 3-2, the Lakers lone win of the 2014-15 season. LSSU has also played Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan in conference series, both sweeps.

LEADERS: Bryce Schmitt leads the Lakers offense with five points (3g-2a) so far this season. Austin McKay and Stephen Perfetto follow Schmitt with two goals apiece. Eric Drapluk and James Roll are tied for the team lead in blocks with 10 each.

IN GOAL: Gordon Defiel has spent the most time as the Lakers goalie this season, compiling a 1-7-0 record and over 450 minutes in goal. Defiel has a 3.41 goal against average and a .908 save percentage entering the weekend.
