Live AudioFINAL PAIR BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS: UAH will wrap up the pre-Christmas slate this week with trips to Shorter and Lee. The Chargers will take their 5-5 (2-2 GSC) record to Rome, Georgia, to face Shorter at 5 p.m. CST on Thursday and will then venture to Lee for a 4 p.m. CST tilt on Saturday. UAH enters the week winners of four of its last seven games.
Â
HEATING UP: After dropping their first two conference games, the Chargers picked up a home win over West Alabama before traveling to West Georgia where the squad picked up a strong road victory. In those two wins, UAH shot 44.1 percent while limiting the opposition to a field goal percentage of 33.9 percent, and the team has also been impressive at the charity stripe, connecting on 82.5 percent of its attempts.
Â
LIMITING MISCUES: In the first eight games of the season, the Chargers averaged 20.6 turnovers per games, but the team cut that number by four in the two games last week as UAH committed just 16.5 giveaways in the contests, including only 17 against a strong West Georgia pressing defense.
Â
DODD FROM DOWNTOWN: The Chargers hit 12 3-pointers in the two victories a week ago, and half of them came from freshman
Caroline Dodd who was a solid 6-for-11 from beyond the arc, increasing her season 3-point field goal percentage to 41.2 percent.
Â
ABOUT THE HAWKS: Shorter is also at .500 on the season at 5-5 thanks to a strong 4-1 home record, but the team is 1-3 in conference play in its first year of full membership in the GSC and NCAA Division II. Ieshia Alexander is hitting shots from beyond the arc at a 40.4 percent clip and leads the team in scoring with 15.8 points per game.
Â
SERIES HISTORY: UAH picked up a pair of wins in the all-time series last season, moving its advantage to 9-6 in all meetings against Shorter. At Shorter last season, the Chargers won 80-72, and
Shannon Steinert was second on the team in scoring as she hit three treys en route to totaling 17 points.
Â
ABOUT THE FLAMES: Lee enters play this week at 5-2 (2-2 GSC), and the Flames are also terrific at home, posting a 5-0 mark. With 17.5 points per game, Emileigh Swafford leads Lee who will entertain North Alabama on Thursday before welcoming the Chargers on Saturday.
Â
SERIES HISTORY: Lee won twice last season, including the team's first-ever win against UAH as the Chargers continue to hold a 3-2 lead in the all-time series. The contest in Cleveland, Tennessee, last year saw UAH take a lead midway through the second half, but Lee was able to hang on for an 83-77 victory.
