Box Score FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Frank Misuraca scored his second goal of the season, but the University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team fell 6-1 on Friday night to Alaska at the Carlson Center in WCHA action.
UAH (1-25-1) trailed by just a single goal after the first period of play, but the host Nanooks (11-12-4, 8-11-2) added four more goals to come away with the five-goal victory.
Alaska struck first at 4:46 of the first period, after a nice back-hander by Jared Larson. Less than three minutes later at 7:10, the Nanooks took a 2-0 lead after a behind the net pass found Marcus Basara in the crease to finish past
Matt Larose.
Frank Misuraca lit the lamp for the second time this season at 18:56 of the first period after firing one past the shoulder of the Alaska goaltender from the point. It's Misuraca's second goal of the season and point-leader
Matt Salhany picked up his 11th point of the season with the assist.
Joakim Broberg logged his third assist of his career as well on the goal.
The two teams would play a fairly even second period, until Alaska came through for its third goal at 15:58 by Jared Linnell. Fairbanks would take the 3-1 lead into the second intermission.
The Nanooks would add three more goals in the third period to pull away with the convincing win.
Larose finished with 38 saves on the night, while Sean Cahill needed 12 saves to pick up the win.
It was the first time the two teams had played in 21 years.
The two will play again tomorrow night in their second and final meeting of the season. Puck drops at 10:07 central time (7:07 Alaskan Time).
