LIVE VIDEOHUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team is set to host Shorter on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. before travelling to West Georgia for a Sunday game at 1 p.m. CST. UAH owns a 12-8 (7-7 Gulf South Conference) record heading into the pair of contests.
The game at West Georgia was moved to Sunday due to schedule changes created by the winter storm impacting the area on Wednesday.
The story of the weekend is
Jasmine Hammon's chase towards becoming the first player in UAH women's basketball history to score 2,000 career points, and she is also aiming to be just the seventh player in conference history to breach the mark.
The senior guard from Muscle Shoals, Ala., enters the pair of games with 1,985 points.
Hammon continues to have the best season of her career, averaging 20.0 points per game, and that average maintains her position immediately behind teammate
Jordan Smith who remains on top of the GSC ledger in scoring with 23.1 points per contest. The two helped UAH pick up victories against this week's opponents earlier in the season as Smith scored 28 and Hammon added 16 in an 80-72 victory at Shorter, while both scored 16 as the Lady Chargers throttled UWG 82-42 at home.
Shorter enters Thursday's contest with a 5-15 (3-11 GSC) mark, and the squad has dropped six in a row while also owning a 1-6 road record. Ieshia Alexander leads Shorter with 13.8 points per contest, while Lynette Harris owns a team-best rebounding average of 6.1 to go along with 10.5 points per game.
West Georgia is 6-14 (4-10 GSC), but the team has won two of its last three contests – including a recent 53-50 victory over league-leader Delta State. Two players score in double figures for UWG with Marion Lemonnier averaging 11.0 and Seandre Lee scoring 10.7 per contest.
