Jeff Vanderlugt fires one on goal in the second period.
Box Score MANKATO, Minn. | Unable to take advantage of a few scoring opportunities, the University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team fell 4-0 on Friday night to Minnesota State at the Verizon Wireless Center.

The Chargers (1-29-1, 1-19-1 WCHA) gave up three goals in the first period against the Mavericks (18-13-0, 16-7-0), before battling in the second period and allowing a late goal in the third period.

UAH played its strongest period by far in the second, keeping MSU out of the net and even giving itself a chance at a score. Both Jack Prince and Alex Allan had shots on goal in the period, with an open net and a chance to quiet the crowd even more.

Gervais added his second goal of the game at 18:52 of the third period.

Minnesota State outshot UAH 46-17 in the contest and went a perfect 2-for-2 on the power play. UAH finished 0-for-2 with the man advantage.

Matt Larose was credited with the loss after finishing with 42 saves, the fourth time this season he recorded at least 40 saves or more.

It's the 11th time this season the Chargers have been shutout, snapping the team's streak of six games with at least one goal scored.

The two teams will play again tomorrow night, with puck drop set for 7:07 p.m. central time.
