UAH Falls 4-1 in Vie for Weekend Sweep of Bemidji

Box Score BEMIDJI, Minn. | Vying for its first weekend sweep of the season, the University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team fell 4-1 on Saturday night to Bemidji State at the Sanford Center.

The Chargers (2-33-1, 2-23-1 WCHA) were hoping to duplicate their upset performance from last night, but with the Beavers (10-17-7, 10-12-4 WCHA) battling for a playoff spot the hosts would have none of it.

After a slow start to the game and a waived off goal for the Beavers, the home team would score the first goal of the game at 14:51 when Jeff Jubinville found back of the net.

Chad Brears would tie himself for the team lead in goals with six just 22 seconds later, after the winger fired one off a Bemidji State defender in front of the net and ricocheted it passed the goaltender.

BSU would score the game-winner just over two minutes later when Cory Ward scored the game's third goal of the first period. The Beavers would add two more goals in the second period to coast to a three-goal victory.

Shots on goal were in strong favor of the Beavers, with a final tally of 48-23. UAH went 0-for-1 on its only power play opportunity of the night, while Bemidji finished 1-for-2.

Carmine Guerriero was handed the loss, finishing with 44 saves in the contest. For the seventh time this season, more times than any other goaltender, Guerriero finished with 40 or more saves.

As was the case this weekend in Bemidji, UAH will play spoiler against Northern Michigan next weekend. UAH will host the Wildcats at the VBC Friday and Saturday, with all fans receiving free admission thanks to the Huntsville International Airport.
