MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's tennis team dropped a 5-0 decision in the GSC Semifinals to No. 1 seed West Florida Saturday morning at Lagoon Park to end the season with an 8-8 record.
West Florida jumped out to an early 3-0 lead while sweeping the doubles matches in the process despite a tough showing by the No. 1 pairing of
Aniek Remmerswaal and
Marleen Gort, who dropped their match 8-3, and the duo of
Katie Bryant and
Jessica Groupierre also suffering an 8-3 defeat at No. 2 doubles.
Groupierre would be the closest to capturing a set in singles competition, however, suffered the 6-3, 4-2 setback as the No. 2 in the lineup as UWF would pick up the two points it needed to move on to the finals.
The Lady Chargers will return most of their lineup as six of the nine players that are currently on the roster will return next season, including Gort, who played at the No. 1 spot during singles competition.
