UAH Snaps Slide with Big 4-1 Win Over MC

Box Score HUNTSVILLE | Picking up its first conference win of the season in dominating fashion, the University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team blew past visiting Mississippi College 4-1 on Friday night in front a great crowd at Charger Park. UAH moves to 2-5-0 (1-2-0 Gulf South Conference) with the victory, while MC slips to 5-2-0 (1-1-0 GSC).

The visitors dominated the first half, outshooting the Chargers by a 13-2 margin, and it was the Choctaws who opened the scoring as Becca Dupuy scored in the 40th minute to give MC a 1-0 lead, but despite the strong play from the opposition, UAH would go into the halftime break level at 1-1 as Alexcia Alexander scored in the 42nd for her fifth goal of the season.

The freshman was not done impacting the game, however, as she would score what wound up being the game-winner, blasting a shot from more than 25 yards out to the upper right corner in the 56th minute to put the hosts on top.

Alexander's six goals are tops on the team and tied for second in the GSC.

The match then turned into the Khadijah Jannah show as she scored in the 62nd and earned another on a penalty kick just two minutes later in the 64th to give her team a comfortable 4-1 advantage. The senior is now second on the team in scoring with five goals on the year.

Larae Breaux picked up the win for UAH in goal, making four stops, and after she was forced out of the game due to an injury, Emily Rhodes played the final 22 minutes of the contest and made two key stops for the Chargers.

UAH outshot the visitors by a 9-4 clip in the second half, but the wide margin in the opening 45 minutes gave the Choctaws a 17-11 advantage for the game. The Chargers held the edge in corners taking four compared to MC's three.

The Chargers will now seek to build upon the momentum generated by Friday night's big win as GSC play continues on Sunday. Delta State visits Huntsville with kickoff slated for 1 p.m.
