Live AudioBACK IN ACTION: The Chargers will spend Thursday at home against West Georgia – a 5:30 p.m. tip – before traveling to Livingston to face West Alabama at 2 p.m. on Saturday. After splitting last week's road trip, UAH is 9-10 (6-7 GSC) entering this next pair of contests.
RECAPPING THE COMEBACK: In one of the more thrilling contests seen in recent years, the Chargers on Saturday erased a nine-point deficit in less than two minutes on its way to forcing overtime in an eventual win over West Florida who was at the time in first place in the GSC. Multiple players had significant roles in the comeback with
Dina Saunders and
Loren Foster providing key 3s while
Juanice Newton had a timely steal and rebound, and the effort was especially impressive considering two of UAH's starters – and two of the team's top three leading scorers – in
Halle Jarnagin and
Josi Saunders were on the bench in the final moments and in overtime after fouling out.
UAH'S GSC POSITION: The win at West Florida was key, keeping the team ahead of Valdosta State and West Alabama who are both at 5-8 and tied for seventh in the league among squads that are eligible for the eight-team postseason field. The Chargers are alone in sixth, and they are just one game back of North Alabama and West Georgia who are tied for fourth at 7-6.
TOUGH ON D: The Chargers have kept teams from shooting the ball well against them, limiting the opposition to a 37.5 percent mark from the floor which is good for second in the GSC. UAH has held opponents under 35 percent in nine games while only allowing two teams to shoot better than 50 percent in a game.
ABOUT WEST GEORGIA: The Wolves are 12-7 (7-6 GSC) on the season, but on the road this year they are just 3-5. The squad had been on a five-game winning streak prior to falling at Delta State 64-59 last Saturday. Taylor Beverly – the reigning GSC Player of the Week – leads the way for UWG, scoring 17.3 points per game to go along with 10.9 rebounds per contest.
EARLIER THIS YEAR: UAH led by 12 at the half en route to a 69-55 victory in Carrollton as
Halle Jarnagin led the way with a career-high 25 points, shooting 7-of-9 from the field while dishing out seven assists. Beverly led the Wolves with 13.
ABOUT WEST ALABAMA: The Tigers enter play this week at 8-9 (5-8 GSC) after dropping three of their last five games, and the team is 4-4 at Pruitt Hall this year. With 17.9 points and 6.8 rebounds per contest, Britney McCloud leads UWA.
EARLIER THIS YEAR: The Chargers won 58-49 after an impressive defensive effort held the visiting Tigers to just 18 points in the opening half in Huntsville. Freshman
Caroline Dodd scored 14 on the strength of three made 3-pointers to lead the Chargers, while McCloud's 18 paced UWA who shot just 34.5 percent on the day.
