About the Chargers...

RECENT ACTION: UAH welcomed the U.S. Under-18 National Team for a two-game exhibition series at the Von Braun Center this past weekend, falling in both contests. UAH lost the opener 2-1 in overtime to the U-18s, and then dropped the series finale on Sunday by 4-2 as Team USA scored twice in the final minute.

IN THE WAY: Sophomore Brandon Carlson (Huntington Beach, Calif.) remains atop the NCAA with 66 blocks this season, while also complementing the offense with seven points (4g-3a). UAH is third overall in the country with 507 blocks as a team.

ROOKIE PACES OFFENSE:
UAH points leader Max McHugh (Seattle, Wash.) has totaled 17 points (7g-10a) this season, and has registered five offensive tallies in the new year. McHugh ranks tied for 17th in the NCAA and second in the WCHA for points by a rookie. Overall within the league, McHugh sits tied for 16th.

BETWEEN THE PIPES: Sophomore Carmine Guerriero (Montreal, Quebec) owns a 7-9-2 record so far this season, after most recently picking up a pair of victories in the sweep of Northern Michigan. Guerriero leads the UAH goaltending core with a .933 save percentage and a 2.32 goals against average. His save percentage ranks 10th in the nation and first in the WCHA.

OFFENSE UP IN 2014-15: The Chargers have six players in double-digit scoring this season, which already bests last season's finish with four players with 10 points or more. Jeff Vanderlugt (5-6--11), Jack Prince (4-7--11), Chad Brears (3-8--1) are tied for second on the roster, while Frank Misuraca (6-4--10) and Brandon Parker (0-10--10) pace the UAH defense in scoring. Overall, UAH has 125 offensive points from 46 goals and 79 assists.

DIFFERENCE IN A YEAR: UAH heads into the weekend with a 7-16-3 overall record and 6-12-0 in the WCHA, good for eighth place and 12 league points. The last time the Chargers finished with at least seven wins was the 2009-10 season when UAH accumulated a 12-18-3 record in the now-defunct CHA. Also, UAH is one of three teams in Division-I to improve by five wins since the 2013-14 campaign.

POSITIVITY: Freshman defenseman Richard Buri leads the team with a +2 on the ice, while also compiling 21 blocks on defense. Buri, along with fellow freshmen d-men Cody Champagne and Brandon Parker, has stabilized a defense that allowed 4.35 goals per game last season, compared to this year's average of 2.97 goals against.
