RECENT ACTION: UAH enters the week's slate with a 3-6-1 overall record and 2-5-1 mark within the WCHA, following a pair of away one-goal losses to No. 15 Bowling Green by scores of 3-2 (OT) and 4-3 on Friday and Saturday respectively. The Chargers are tied for eighth in the league standings with five points.
A RIVALRY RENEWED: The Chargers – who are 29-43-4 all-time against BSU – will host storied rival Bemidji State this week for games on Wednesday and Friday at 7:07 p.m. at the Von Braun Center, which will be the first-ever midweek game in Huntsville for the Blue and White. The two teams have a long history prior to the Chargers' WCHA arrival, having matched up in NCAA Division II Championship games in 1994, 1996 and 1998 with UAH coming out as the victor in 1996 and 1998.
CONSISTENT SCORING: After being held point-less in the Michigan Tech series on Nov. 6-7, sophomore
Max McHugh chipped in one assist in each game for his fourth multi-point weekend of the season to put him in the team lead for 10 points – tied with fellow sophomore
Brennan Saulnier – from three goals and a team-high seven assists. McHugh was tabbed as a Preseason All-WCHA honoree in the media poll.
BETWEEN THE PIPES: Third-year head coach
Mike Corbett split starts in goal for the third weekend in a row between fellow juniors
Carmine Guerriero and
Matt Larose, with both netminders taking a loss at Bowling Green. The tandem has combined for a .899 save percentage and a 2.98 goals against average, ranking eighth in the league in goals against per game.
ROOKIE IMPRESSING: In his strongest offensive output so far in his freshman season,
Jetlan Houcher provided the Chargers with two points from one goal and one assist at No. 15 Bowling Green this past weekend. Houcher's lone goal of the weekend was a game-tying, power-play marker at 9:26 of the third that pushed the contest into overtime. He had six shots on goal during the weekend series.
STARTING WITH THE PUCK: The Chargers continue to excel in face-offs this season with a win rate of .534 to rate 11th as a team in the NCAA. Individually, Saulnier paces the Blue and White at ninth in the nation with a .650 face-off percentage, followed by junior captain
Brent Fletcher in 38th with a .592 win rate.
ABOUT THE BEAVERS: Bemidji State enters the week last in the WCHA with a 2-6-3 record in 2015-16 and a 1-5-2 record in league contests, after losing the opener and tying in the finale last weekend at home against Lake Superior State. The Beavers offense is led by Gerry Fitzgerald with 10 points from a team-high seven goals and three assists, with the BSU defense averaging 2.76 goals against anchored by goalie Michael Blitzer with nine starts this season.
