About the Chargers...

MOVING UP: UAH completed a three-point weekend in the pivotal road series at Lake Superior State this past weekend, skating to a 1-1 tie in the opener and picking up a 3-1 win in the finale on Saturday. The Chargers are now 7-14-1 in the WCHA with 15 points in the league good for eighth place and a seventh-place seed in the postseason due to Alaska Fairbanks' ineligibility.

LEADING BY EXAMPLE: Senior captain Doug Reid had his most successful offensive weekend of the season at LSSU scoring a pair of equalizing goals against the Lakers. It was Reid's first multi-goal performance this season and gives him four points (2g-2a) this year. The Innisfil, Ontario native has played a total of 117 games in his career at UAH with 16 career points (4g-12a).

ROOKIE PACING OFFENSE: UAH points leader Max McHugh chipped in his second game-winning goal of the season on a rebound in the third period of Saturday's game to increase his team-high point total to 18 (8g-10a) on the season. McHugh's overall point total ranks fourth among all WCHA rookies, while his goals rank second and assists eighth among all first-year players. His game-winning goal garnered him WCHA Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this season.

BETWEEN THE PIPES: Sophomore Carmine Guerriero was stellar between the pipes over the weekend leading the Chargers to a three-point weekend at Lake Superior State, compiling 50 saves and a .961 save percentage against the Lakers as he improved his season record to 8-11-3. The Montreal native owns a .929 save percentage this season, good for 14th nationally and third in the WCHA.

HELP FROM THE DEFENSE: Freshman Brandon Parker assisted in his 12th goal of the season on McHugh's game-winning goal on Saturday, which gives the first-year defenseman 12 points this season. Parker ranks fourth in assists among WCHA rookies and 12th in the NCAA for assists by a rookie defenseman. The Faribault, Minnesota native has also blocked 40 shots in his rookie campaign.

IN THE WAY: Sophomore Brandon Carlson kept pace on the national leader board with one block over the weekend, which keeps him tied atop the NCAA with 71 blocks this season. Carlson has also been active on offense this year, registering seven points (4g-3a). The Huntington Beach, California native headlines a defense that ranks fourth in the NCAA with 459 blocks, complimented by fellow defensemen Frank Misuraca (50), Graeme Strukoff (43), Parker (40) and Cody Champagne (35).

CHANGE IN A YEAR: Second-year head coach Mike Corbett has his team in heavy playoff contention this season, following a 2-25-1 mark in the WCHA last season. Both the offense and defense have seen notable changes, as the Chargers have 138 offensive points already this year as opposed to 113 points all of last season. Similarly, the defense averages 3.13 goals against, which is starkly different from the 2013-14 average of 4.35.

ROAD AHEAD: This weekend will begin a two-series homestand as Ferris State comes to the Rocket City for a pair of games, before Alaska Fairbanks visits Huntsville on Feb. 27-28 to close out the home slate for UAH. The Chargers will wrap the 2014-15 regular season with a trip to Bowling Green on March 6-7.
