LIVINGSTON, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's tennis team defeated West Alabama 7-2 
Saturday and improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in GSC play. The men fell to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in conference with a 5-4 setback.
The women's squad got off to a hot start by picking up two out of three points at doubles. 
Marleen Gort and 
Aniek Remmerswaal lead the way with an 8-3 victory over Stanzi Stujit and Madeline Skaras. At No. 2 doubles, 
Katie Bryant and 
Cristina Cabanas defeated Evelyn Moreno and Sandra Florez 8-6. 
Naomi Esteve and 
Marta Briega fell to Kathryn Adams and Shannon McEvoy 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.
The Chargers would only give up one more point to West Alabama in singles play. Gort led the way with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Stujit while Cabanas gutted out a win over Skaras 6-2, 4-6 (10-3). Remmerswaal, Esteve, and Bryant also picked up points while Briega fell to Moreno.
On the men's side, West Alabama took a 1-0 lead with a win at No. 1 doubles where 
Pablo Herrero and 
David Cooper fell 8-4 to Adam Drysdale and Manuel Grossmann. The Chargers would sweep the next two doubles points with wins for duos of 
Jose Soto and 
Elliot Hopson, and 
Nestor Perez and 
Harrison Stone. Both matches were closely contested, each ending with a 9-7 final.
Heading into singles play up 2-1, the men were able to grab wins on courts one and two. 
Jose Soto picked up his fourteenth straight singles win with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Adam Drysdale. Perez was also victorious, defeating Andrii Stratilenko 6-1, 6-0. Perez's win would be the team's last point as the Tigers swept the final four matches beating the Chargers by a one point margin
The women's team will be back in Huntsville on 
March 3 at 5:30 p.m. to take on Tennessee at Martin at Athletic Club Alabama. The men will be back in action on
March 6 at 1 p.m. at Spragins Hall where they will face Lincoln Memorial.
