PENSACOLA, Fla. | The No. 4 University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team topped West Florida in both games of the doubleheader on Saturday afternoon by consecutive scores of 2-0 in the opening games of the three-game, Gulf South Conference series. UAH improves to 14-1-1 (10-1-1 GSC), while UWF slips to 14-9 (8-6 GSC).
Lefty
Daniel Koger started on the hill for UAH in the first game, improving to 6-0 on the year after twirling 7.1 shutout frames with four hits allowed and four strikeouts.
Senior
Luke Mould picked up his fifth save of the year, finishing off the final 1.2 innings with two strikeouts and completed the shutout of the Argonauts with Koger.
Shortstop
Tanner Cimo gave UAH the game-deciding run in the third inning with an RBI single to center, while
Austin Sanders notched a RBI on a squeeze bunt in the seventh to give UAH some breathing room and bring the game to its 2-0 final.
UAH fifth-year skipper
Hunter Royer received another strong outing from reigning GSC Pitcher of the Week
Mitchell Wright, as the lefty hurled 4.0 shutout frames with two hits allowed and four strikeouts. Wright improved to 2-0 with the win.
Right-hander
Chris Kilpatrick notched his first career save with the Blue and White, finishing off the second shutout of the day with 3.0 hitless innings pitched and three strikeouts.
Colton Simbeck launched his fourth home run of the season, a solo shot, to give UAH a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. The Chargers were able to go up 2-0 on another successful squeeze bunt this time by senior
Cody Burton in the top of the seventh.
UAH and UWF will play the series finale tomorrow in Pensacola at 1 p.m.
