Chargers Hit the Road for Ferris State this Weekend

RECENT ACTION: UAH is coming off a WCHA series split with Alaska Fairbanks over the weekend, after falling in the opener 6-3 and taking the finale 3-1. The win on Saturday was the first for the Chargers over the Nanooks since Jan. 11, 1992 and broke a string of 11 winless WCHA games for UAH.
 
HOMETOWN LEADER: Huntsville native Josh Kestner led the Chargers to the 3-1 win on Saturday with his second-career multi goal performance, recording the game-winning tally in the first on a power play and adding his second of the game in the third. The sophomore is now tied for fourth on the roster with four goals in 2015-16.
 
SENIOR SCORING: Chad Brears continues to have the most successful season of his four-year collegiate career as the Cold Lake, Alberta native added three points with two goals and an assist in the opener against UAF. Brears leads the Chargers with nine goals this year and is second on the team with 16 points from an additional seven assists. He is tied for fifth in the WCHA in goals this season.
 
POINTS LEADER: Max McHugh also had three points in the opener against UAF, assisting on two of the Chargers goals and adding a maker of his own in the first period. McHugh is tied for second in the WCHA with 19 points, while leading the conference and ranking tied for 26th in the nation with 14 assists. McHugh is just five points away from topping his 2014-15 performance of 23 points (12g-11a).
 
BETWEEN THE PIPES: Matt Larose notched his first career back-to-back win after nearly recording a shutout in the 3-1 win over UAF on Saturday to improve his season record to 3-4-0. Larose registered 28 saves in the contest, while holding the Nanooks scoreless in two power-play chances. This season, the Nanaimo, B.C., native is posting career highs in goals against average (2.20) and save percentage (.924).
 
HELP FROM THE BLUE LINE: Freshman Kurt Gosselin posted two assists in the WCHA series split with Alaska Fairbanks in Huntsville this past weekend, recording an assist in each game that included Josh Kestner's game-winning goal on Saturday. Gosselin now leads the rookie class and is tied for first amongst UAH defensemen with seven points (2g-5a).
 
BULLDOGS PROFILE: Ferris State enters the weekend with a 9-9-4 overall record and an 8-7-3 mark within the WCHA. Gerald Mayhew leads an offense that boasts six double-digit scorers with 19 points on the year from six goals and 13 assists. Darren Smith and Charles Williams have split time in goal for FSU to combine for a 2.80 goals against average and .908 save percentage.
 
MATCHUP HISTORY: The Chargers own a 3-12-0 all-time series record against the Bulldogs and a 1-7-0 record when visiting Big Rapids, after winning the program's first-ever game at FSU 3-2 last season on Nov. 21 in the series opener. Chad Brears had a two-goal performance in the contest.
