Chargers Set for WCHA Series at Alaska Anchorage

RECENT ACTION: Prior to a week away from competition, UAH took a trip to Big Rapids, Michigan for a pair of WCHA contests against Ferris State, coming away with a 3-3 tie in the opener and a 4-1 loss in the series finale. The Chargers are now 5-16-3 overall and 3-12-3 within the league with nine WCHA points.
 
HOT IN NET: UAH netminder Matt Larose is now unbeaten in his last three starts after backstopping the Chargers tie at FSU, saving 46-of-49 shots by the Bulldogs. Over his last three contests, Larose is averaging 36.3 saves with a .957 save percentage, which is good for first in the WCHA since Dec. 18.
 
SECOND YEAR SURGE: Sophomore Max McHugh notched his sixth goal of the season in the opener during the Ferris State series to give him 20 points from an additional 14 assists in 2015-16. McHugh currently rates tied for third in the league in assists and knotted in fifth in points.
 
MAKE IT MAX: The Hobey Baker Award initial fan ballot opened last week, and McHugh is among the 66 student-athletes nominated for the prestigious award. Since joining the program last season, the Seattle native has been the most productive offensive performer with 43 points from 18 goals and 25 assists.
SHORTHANDED SPECIALTY: Junior Matt Salhany registered his first goal of the season shorthanded in the series opener at Ferris State, while also chipping in an assist on the Chargers go-ahead goal in the third period by Tyler Poulsen. Salhany has five points (1g-4a) on the year, and has recorded at least one shorthanded tally in each of his three seasons.
 
SERIES HISTORY: The Blue and White are 4-19-2 all-time against Alaska Anchorage, with the series between the two programs dating back to Dec. 7, 1987.  UAH hosted UAA for a pair of games earlier in 2015-16 on Oct. 23-24, with the teams tying 3-3 in the opener and the Seawolves taking the finale 3-2.
 
SEAWOLVES PROFILE: Alaska Anchorage enters the weekend with a 9-12-3 overall record and a 6-10-2 mark within the WCHA, following a pair of 6-2 losses at No. 18 Bowling Green last weekend.  Blake Tatchell paces the UAA offense with 13 points (3g-10a), while Olivier Mantha has started 22 games in net with a 2.90 goals against average and a .903 save percentage.
 
LOOKING AHEAD: Following the series at UAA on Jan. 29-30, UAH will return to the Rocket City for the eighth home series of the season against Minnesota State on Feb. 12-13. This will be the first time since 2013-14 that MSU visited Huntsville.
