Von Braun CenterLIVE ON ASN: The American Sports Network (ASN) will be televising the UAH and Alaska Fairbanks game on Friday as part of ASN's Friday night college hockey package, which will be the first nationally-televised home game in program history and the WCHA's debut to the network. The game will be broadcast live on 107 ASN affiliates nationwide, spanning 39 states and including locally on
WHNT2, MASN's Dish Network (Ch. 432) and Direct TV (Channel 640).
PROMOS: The seventh installment of the 2015-16 trading card sets will be given away on Friday night for the first 500, courtesy of Colonial Printing, while Saturday's featured promotion is foam mini sticks, sponsored by American Promotions, for the initial 500 in attendance.
SECOND HALF UNDERWAY: The Chargers opened the New Year this past weekend at No. 2 North Dakota on Friday and Saturday night, falling in both contests by scores of 1-0 and 4-1, respectively. UAH is now 4-14-2 overall this season, while rating 10th in the WCHA with six league points from a 2-10-2 WCHA record.
SNAPPED: UAH's consecutive penalty kill streak was stopped at 34 straight at North Dakota over the weekend in the second period of Friday's game, but the Chargers held UND 1-for-7 overall on the power play in the series. The Blue and White rate second in the WCHA and 12th nationally with an 86.6 percent success rate (71-for-82) on penalty kills.
SECOND-YEAR SURGE: Sophomore defenseman
Richard Buri has delivered a goal in each of the past two series to give him five points on the year with three prior assists. The Nitra, Slovakia, native has played on the Chargers top defensive line for the entire first half of the season, while leading all UAH defensemen with a +2 rating on the ice.
PACING THE OFFENSE:
Max McHugh was held to zero points on offense for just the second series this season at No. 2 North Dakota, with the Seattle native having accumulated four multi-point series earlier this campaign. The sophomore leads the Blue and White and is tied for first in the WCHA with 12 assists, while rating fifth in the league with 16 points from an additional four goals.
BETWEEEN THE PIPES: Junior
Carmine Guerriero started in net for third-year head coach
Mike Corbett both times this past weekend at North Dakota, and had one of his strongest performances in the opener stopping 38 of 39 shots in the 1-0 loss. This season, the Montreal native is 11th in the WCHA with a .903 save percentage.
NANOOKS PROFILE: Alaska Fairbanks (5-11-4, 3-9-4 WCHA) will be trekking over 4,000 miles to Huntsville for the second consecutive season, and are fresh off a 5-6 loss and a 1-1 tie vs. Bemidji State on Jan. 1-2. WCHA Co-Preseason Player of the Year Tyler Morley paces the UAF offense with 10 goals and nine assists for 19 points, while Jesse Jenks and Davis Jones have split time in net for a .905 save percentage and 2.89 goals against average.
MATCHUP HISTORY: UAH holds an all-time series record of 6-18-1 against Alaska Fairbanks and a 3-6-1 mark when playing in the Rocket City. The Nanooks won all four games over the Chargers last season, which included two contests that went to overtime.
LOOKING AHEAD: Following the Chargers seventh home series so far this season against UAF, UAH will hit the road for the next two WCHA sets with trips to Ferris State (Jan. 15-16) and Alaska Anchorage (Jan. 29-30).
