Groves-Scott Sets Program Record at Royal Invite

MEN'S RESULTS | WOMEN'S RESULTS

CHARLOTTE, N.C. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville cross country team competed at the Royals Challenge on Friday afternoon, and the Chargers men came away with fourth place overall while the UAH women finished eighth in the competition.

"Tremendous performances by both teams from top to bottom, and I couldn't be more pleased with the way they raced," Head coach David Cain said. "I am very proud of the men's side placing our top five runners in under 26 minutes, which is a first for our program. Our women's team also had a good day, especially Angel Sillivant, and it was excited to see them put it all together."

On the men's side, Brydon Groves-Scott had one of the most impressive performances in UAH's history as the sophomore broke the program record for an 8k race with a time of 24:56.10, which bests Blaise Binns' record of 24:56.16.

Groves-Scott was followed by freshman Benjamin Knox who placed 19th overall with a time of 25:15.00, which is the best freshman performance since Binns posted 25:31.00 in his initial collegiate season.

The Charger men also had top 100 finishers at the competition in Anthony Wells (21st, 25:22.3), Alex Gilliland (38th, 25:42.3), and Corey Lewenkamp (55th, 25:55.4), Carson Tullo (100th, 26:43.6).

For the UAH women, Huntsville native Angel Sillivant led the way with a time of 18:22.6 in 25th place in the contest. Sillivant's time bests her previous personal best of 19:34.7 set last week at the UAH Invite.

Sillivant was trailed by freshman Marlee Mason in 37th place with a personal-best time of 18:40.1, while UAH also had top 100 runners in Stacy Solomon (67th, 19:09.6), Auburn Cohan (73rd, 19:16.3), and Allison Ammons (92nd, 19:30.1).

Also competing for the UAH women were, Lauren Allred (102nd, 19:42.9), Amy Dunham (125th, 19:56.8), Trina Badger (134th, 20:06.5), Olivia Goldsby (140th, 20:15.3), Vanessa Cardwell (159th, 20:33.4), Alex Porter (171st, 20:44.0), Madison Pegouske (192nd, 20:58.1), and Kristen Fuller (196th, 21:06.4).
