BOX SCOREMONTEVALLO, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's tennis team dropped a close contest with in-state foe Montevallo on Thursday, falling by the narrowest of margins at 5-4. UAH slips to 0-2 to start the year.

UAH found itself trailing after doubles by a 2-1 score as the No. 1 pairing of
Marleen Gort and
Sarah Stearman captured the point with an easy 8-1 win. At the No. 3 match,
Cristina Cabanas and
Marta Briega threatened to earn another point for the Chargers but ultimately fell 9-7.

Cabanas rebounded in singles play, however, winning 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 3 position, and the visitors received another pair of points in the match as the No. 5
Naomi Esteve was a 6-3, 6-2 winner and Briega was a 6-1, 6-1 victor at the No. 6 singles.

At the fourth position in singles,
Aniek Remmerswaal won the first set 6-3, but then fell 6-4, 6-3 in the only singles match to go three sets.

UAH returns to action on Saturday when the team heads to Columbus State.
