MEN'S BOX SCOREHUNTSVILLE | West Florida – ranked No. 4 in the country on the men's side and No. 6 on the women's – visited Huntsville on a chilly Sunday and knocked off UAH's men 6-0 and the Charger women 5-1 in a pair of contests that were shortened due to the cold temperatures.
Both UAH teams fall to 0-4 (0-1 Gulf South Conference).
In the women's contest, only the singles points were completed, and it was
Marleen Gort at the No. 1 position who earned the Chargers their point as she was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Hannah Toro. In other action,
Naomi Esteve was competitive in the No. 4 match, winning five games in falling 6-3, 6-2 to Dianna Vlad, while
Madison Gulick was able to take three games from No. 42 Nina Bubelova in dropping the No. 5 position's point 6-2, 6-1.
On the men's side, two of the doubles points were played to the awarding of points, and the UAH duo of
Noah Pring and
Elliot Hopson played strong in falling 8-5 to Pedro Roese and Juan Pablo Boada at the top doubles match.
In singles action, the most closely contested point came at the sixth position as
Harrison Stone fell 6-2 in the opening set before battling Pablo Tellez to a 7-6 setback in the second.
The men's team will return to action on Wednesday as the squad takes on Division I member Alabama A&M at UAH at 2 p.m., while the women will return to the court on Friday night for a 6:30 p.m. contest against Division I institution Belmont.
