BOX SCOREMORROW, Ga. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's tennis team fell on Sunday, dropping a tight 5-4 decision to host Clayton State. UAH slips to 6-7 with the setback, while the Lakers improve to 3-8.

UAH will continue its Spring Break swing through the Peach State on Monday when the team travels to Augusta for a noon contest.

The Chargers started the contest on Sunday with a 1-0 lead as the pairing of
Marleen Gort and
Naomi Esteve captured an 8-3 decision at the second position in doubles, but the hosts grabbed the other two doubles points to go into singles action with a 2-1 lead in the match.

The lead expanded to 3-1 with a Clayton State win at the fifth position, but Gort – ranked No. 14 in the South Region by the ITA – would bounce back from a 6-1 setback in the opening set and win 6-3, 6-2 at the top singles match to pull UAH back within one at 3-2.

Leveling the contest at 3-3 was
Cristina Cabanas who won at the second position 6-1, 6-4, but the Lakers would claim the points at Nos. 3 and 4 to clinch the match.

Marta Briega gave UAH its fourth point of the contest, also going a full three sets in winning 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
