WOMEN'S BOX SCORE |
MEN'S BOX SCOREAUGUSTA, Ga. | The UAH tennis teams traveled to nationally-ranked Augusta on Tuesday, with the women winning 5-4 over the No. 36 Jaguars while the No. 44 men's team was an 8-1 winner over the Chargers.
Â
UAH's ladies move to 7-7 on the season, while the men slip to 2-9.
Â
In the women's match, the Chargers jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles with the second pairing of
Marleen Gort and
Naomi Esteve winning 8-4 and the other point coming by forfeit as Augusta did not put up a No. 3 pairing.
Â
That allowed UAH to hold a 3-1 lead when singles started as the team also did not put a player into the No. 6 singles match.
Â
Gort continued her torrid ways, winning for the sixth time in the past seven contests as the region's 14th-ranked player was a 7-5, 6-1 winner at the top position, and
Cristina Cabanas was also victorious, winning 6-2, 6-1 at the second position for her team-best 11th win of the year.
Â
On the men's side, it was
Elliot Hopson who gave UAH its lone point, bouncing back from an opening-set 6-3 setback at the second position in singles play to win 6-0, 10-7 to record the victory.
Â
Noah Pring also put up a strong fight, dropping the No. 6 singles match 6-4, 6-7, 10-4.
Â
Both teams will continue the Spring Break road swing on Tuesday when they take on USC Aiken in Augusta.
