CLEVELAND, Miss. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's tennis team put together a strong weekend in Gulf South Conference play, going on the road to Christian Brothers and Delta State and winning both matches. The Chargers improve to 4-5 overall and 3-1 in GSC action while also moving their road record to 3-3.

UAH stays on the road in conference play on Tuesday when the team travels to Florence to take on North Alabama.

On Saturday, UAH cruised past host CBU in Memphis, and the contest started with three relatively easy wins in doubles play.

Naomi Esteve and
Madison Gulick gave UAH its first point of the day when they captured the point at No. 3 doubles with an 8-1 victory, and the No. 2 pairing of
Aniek Remmerswaal and
Cristina Cabanas quickly followed suit with an identical score to make it a 2-0 lead for UAH.

Wrapping up doubles with an 8-4 victory,
Marleen Gort and
Sarah Stearman teamed up to lift the Chargers ahead by a 3-0 margin.

Marta Briega put UAH on the brink of clinching the match with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the No. 6 as play pivoted to singles action, and Esteve sealed it with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at the fifth position.

In the other singles matches, No. 1 Gort won 6-3, 7-5; Cabanas was a winner at the second position 6-3, 6-2; third-position Stearman captured a 6-0, 6-1 win; and Gulick was victorious at the fourth spot by a 6-3, 6-0 score.

In Sunday's match, the Chargers built up a 2-1 lead after a tightly-contested round of doubles that saw the No. 1 pairing of Stearman and Gort win 8-4 and the second-position duo Cabanas and Remmerswaal win 9-7.

Briega again won her No. 6 singles match, giving the Chargers a 3-1 lead as she was a 6-1, 6-2 winner, but the Lady Statesmen answered with wins at the fourth and third positions to tie the contest at 3-3.

Gort then fought out a 7-6, 6-1 win at the top match, and Cabanas gutted out a 7-5, 6-4 victory at the second position to give the visitors the victory before Esteve created the 6-3 final with a 6-4, 4-6, 10-7 win at the fifth spot.
