MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's tennis team put up a strong fight but was eliminated from the 2016 Gulf South Conference Championships on Friday with a 5-0 loss to top-seeded West Florida. The Chargers drop to 11-11, while the Argos – who are ranked No. 6 in the country – improve to 21-5.
In doubles play in the tournament semifinal match, the Chargers battled to 8-4 losses at the first and third positions that were played by the No. 1 pairing of Madison Gullick and
Cristina Cabanas and the No. 3 duo of
Sarah Stearman and
Aniek Remmerswaal.
Gullick also competed strongly at the fourth position in singles, winning five games in a 6-2, 6-3 loss.
West Florida also won at the third position, while all of the other singles matches were left unfinished after the Argos clinched the match.
