UAH Hosts Michigan Tech for Weekend Series at the VBC

PROMOS: UAH will be giving away Charger cups, courtesy of Maynards, for fans in attendance to Friday night's game, while Saturday's featured promotion will be the sixth installment of the 2016-17 trading card set, thanks to Colonial Printing.
 
KIDS IN FREE: Children ages 12 and under receive free admission to all UAH hockey home games for the 2016-17 season, courtesy of Huntsville International Airport. Fans can purchase hockey tickets by visiting the VBC Box Office or by calling (256) UAH-PUCK to purchase group tickets. Tickets can also be purchased through Ticketmaster.com.
 
RECENT ACTION: UAH was tripped up in a pair of WCHA road contests this past weekend in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, to Lake Superior State by scores of 5-4 and 4-1 at Abel Arena, dropping the Chargers (7-17-2, 7-11-2 WCHA) to eighth in the league standings with 23 points. Despite the losses this past weekend, UAH ranks third in the league in WCHA road games with a .650 win percentage on a 6-3-1 record.
 
UPCOMING WEEKEND: The Chargers return home this Friday and Saturday night at 7:07 p.m. to take on the visiting Michigan Tech Huskies, whom the Blue & White visited on Oct. 14-15 and came away with a loss and a tie in the weekend series. UAH is 0-11-1 all-time against MTU and 0-4-0 when hosting the Huskies.
 
HOMETOWN LEADER: Huntsville native Josh Kestner continues to pace the Chargers offense with 20 points on eight goals and 12 assists, after totaling two goals and one assist this past weekend at Lake Superior State. The junior forward – who notched his first two-goal game of the season in the opener on Friday – enters the weekend ranked 10th in the WCHA with .77 points per game.
 
HELPING HAND: Sophomore Cam Knight is now tied for second on the UAH roster and leads all Charger defensemen with 16 points on three goals and 13 assists in 2016-17, following a total of three assists in the weekend series at LSSU. Knight is currently tied for second amongst WCHA defensemen with a career-high 13 assists through 26 games.
 
FRESHMAN RISING: Freshman Brandon Salerno is now riding a three-game point streak after chipping in an assist in Friday's contest and notching the lone Charger goal in Saturday's series finale. This season, Salerno ranks second among UAH rookies with six points (3g-3a) in 12 appearances.
 
FINDING TWINE: Kurt Gosselin had his third game of the season with at least two points as he posted one goal and one assist in the series opener at Lake Superior State, giving the sophomore a tie for the team lead in goals with eight in addition to seven assists for 15 points in 2016-17. Gosselin's eight goals are tied for first amongst WCHA defensemen.
 
BETWEEN THE PIPES: Fourth-year head coach Mike Corbett again went with the tandem of Jordan Uhelski and Carmine Guerriero between the pipes this past weekend, with the duo combining for 44 saves and nine goals allowed during the weekend series. So far in 2016-17, UAH goalies have combined for a .881 save percentage and a 3.54 goals against average, paced by Uhelski's .904 save percentage and 2.77 GAA.
 
LOOKING AHEAD: Following this weekend's series with Michigan Tech, UAH will trek to the Last Frontier for the second time this season to take on Alaska Fairbanks on Feb. 3-4 prior to returning home for the final series of the season at the VBC against Bemidji State on Feb. 10-11.
 
HUSKIES PROFILE: Michigan Tech (15-9-6, 12-3-5 WCHA) enter the weekend second in the WCHA standings with 43 points so far in league games in 2016-17, after most recently coming away with a tie and a win at home against Minnesota State this past weekend. The Huskies offense is paced by Jake Lucchini with 17 points (9g-8a), while Angus Redmond has played the majority of time in goal with a 1.50 goals against average and a .934 save percentage.
