UPCOMING WEEKEND: UAH (0-2-0, 0-0-0 WCHA) jumps into WCHA play for the 2017-18 season this weekend following a break from action this past week, as the Chargers travel to Michigan's Upper Peninsula to take on No. 15 Michigan Tech (3-1-1, 1-0-1 WCHA) Friday and Saturday with puck drop slated for 6:07 p.m. CST both nights.

OPENING THE SEASON: The Chargers opened the 2017-18 campaign with a trip to then-No. 8 Notre Dame on Oct. 6-7, with the Blue & White dropping both games in the series by scores of 5-3 and 4-0. UAH's three goals in the season-opener were the most by the squad since opening the 2009-10 campaign at UND on Oct. 9, 2009.

DOUBLING UP: Tyler Poulsen notched two goals in the season opener at Notre Dame for the Chargers, giving the junior two career two-goal performances after posting a pair of tallies in last season's finale against Bemidji State on Feb. 11, 2017. Poulsen enters the weekend tied for fifth in the conference with two goals.

HOMETOWN SCORING: Huntsville native Josh Kestner tied Poulsen with a team-high two points after a goal and an assist in the opener at Notre Dame. Kestner now boasts 38 career points from 21 goals and 17 assists as a senior.

FINDING CHANCES: The Chargers notched a total of 62 shots on goal during the series, which has the squad ranked third in the WCHA with 31.0 shots per game entering league play. Kestner owns a team-high eight shots on goal followed by Hans Gorowsky with seven shots on goal through two games.

RETURNING PRODUCTION: UAH rated 10th nationally entering the new season with 87 percent of its scoring returning from the 2016-17 season, which was led by Kestner with a career-best 22 points from nine goals and 13 assists. UAH boasted a total of nine players with 10 points or more last season, with eight of the nine Chargers returning for 2017-18.

TEAM LEADERSHIP: UAH head coach Mike Corbett named his captain and alternates for the 2017-18 season with senior Max McHugh being the squad's captain and Kurt Gosselin, Kestner and Brandon Parker becoming alternates.

HUSKIES PROFILE: Michigan Tech will open its home slate with the Chargers this upcoming weekend with an overall record of 3-1-1 and 1-0-1 in the WCHA after most recently winning once and tying once in a series at Lake Superior State. The MTU offense is paced by defenseman Mark Auk with eight points (2g-6a) while four other Huskies have five points apiece this season. Patrick Munson has made all five starts for first-year head coach Joe Shawhan, totaling a 2.77 goals against average and a .907 save percentage.

SERIES HISTORY: UAH owns an all-time record of 0-12-2 all-time against Michigan Tech and a record of 0-7-1 when visiting the Huskies in Houghton. Last season, the Chargers and Huskies met a total of four times, which included two ties and two losses for UAH.

LOOKING AHEAD: The Chargers will continue their four-series road swing to start 2017-18 with a pair of nonconference series in the coming weeks as the team travels to Cornell on Oct. 27-28 and Arizona State on Nov. 3-4.

WCHA.TV: In partnership with industry leader Stretch Internet, WCHA.tv - the official online streaming platform of the WCHA - will provide fans with live and archived broadcasts of WCHA hockey, now available via OTT aps on Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Android TV.
