Â
TOURNEY BOUND: Last weekend, the Chargers not only clinched their place in the 2017 GSC Men's Soccer Championships, but the team also earned a bye to the semifinals by locking up the No. 2 seed as the team can finish no worse than in its current tie with Mississippi College. The Chargers have won the tiebreaker over MC which uses a conference power rating based on factors such as wins, goals scored, and shutouts. UAH will face the winner of the 3/6 game on Friday, Nov. 3, at noon in Montgomery.
Â
RECAPPING LAST WEEK: UAH went on the road last weekend, picking up a sweep of Lee and Shorter by using an 11-goal outburst in the two games. UAH fell behind 2-1 to Lee before roaring back to win 4-2, and the team never trailed in winning comfortably 7-1 at Shorter.
Â
SENIOR SEND-OFF: Prior to the contest on Thursday, the Chargers will honor their four senior as
Gunnar Birgisson,
Leon Brudy,
Daniel Buchanan, and
Jordan Wright all play their final contest on the Charger Park pitch. UAH has averaged over nine wins per season during the group's tenure in Huntsville, and the team has twice finished second in the conference over those four years.
Â
SOPHOMORE SURGING: Corentin Diverres continued his torrid ways last weekend, scoring twice in both contests to now own a three-game streak in which he has scored a pair of goals, and that hot stretch has pushed the Guidel, France, native into the GSC lead for points as he has 25 on the season.
Â
ABOUT WEST ALABAMA: The Tigers visit the Rocket City riding a 10-game winning streak which has them sitting at 13-2-0 and 9-1-0 in GSC play. The team is scoring 2.4 goals per contest with Ali Brador's nine goals and four assists for 22 points leading the way offensively. Brad Louis has played the vast majority of the minutes in goal for UA, posting a 0.76 goals against average and a .828 save percentage while racking up five shutouts.
Â
SERIES HISTORY: The Chargers picked up their first-ever win against UWA last year and now trail the series 1-7-1. In that contest in Livingston, Diverres scored both goals in a 2-0 victory.
