UAH Returns to Action at Rival Bemidji State this Weekend

WEEKEND AHEAD: Following the first time away from competition in nine consecutive weeks, UAH (6-12-2, 5-7-2 WCHA) heads to rival Bemidji State (7-6-5, 4-4-4 WCHA) this Friday and Saturday at 7:07 p.m. at the Sanford Center. This will be the Chargers fourth consecutive road series in a string of 12 straight games on the road.
 
RECENT ACTION: The Chargers are coming off a pair of losses to No. 7 Minnesota State on Dec. 15-16, as the Mavericks won both matchups by scores of 5-1 and 3-0. UAH – who enters the weekend tied for sixth in the WCHA standings with BSU with 18 points – had previously recorded at least one WCHA point in six consecutive series to start the 2017-18 league slate.
 
LEADING PRODUCER: Huntsville native Josh Kestner remains atop the UAH offense with 16 points on a team-high 12 goals in addition to four assists in his senior season. Kestner currently ranks second in the WCHA with 12 goals and .60 goals per game, while being tied for first in conference play with 10 goals and .71 tallies per contest.
 
CAREER YEAR: Junior Tyler Poulsen notched the lone goal for the Chargers at Minnesota State, which gives him 15 points on the season from five goals and 10 assists. This season, Poulsen has already set career-highs in points, goals and assists.
 
KEEP IT POSITIVE: Madison Dunn headlines a total of six UAH players with positive ratings on the ice at +8, which ranks tied for seventh in the WCHA. Dunn is currently tied for fifth on the roster with a career-high eight points from three goals and five assists.
 
ON THE BLOCK: UAH boasts a league-leading 296 blocks so far in 2017-18, ranking third nationally in blocked shots as well. The Chargers have seven players with 20 blocks or more, led by Cody Champagne with 37 blocks to rate tied for 19th in the NCAA.
 
LOOKING AHEAD: After this weekend in Bemidji, Minnesota, UAH heads to the Last Frontier for two straight weeks to play Alaska Fairbanks on Jan. 5-6 and Alaska Anchorage on Jan. 12-13.
 
SERIES HISTORY: UAH holds an all-time record of 30-47-5 against Bemidji State and 9-26-2 when visiting the Beavers. The Chargers and Beavers history – which dates back to a 5-3 win for UAH on March 11, 1994 – includes four NCAA Division II Championship meetings in which UAH became the champions in 1995-96 and 1997-98.
 
BEAVERS PROFILE: Bemidji State opens the weekend with a 7-6-5 overall record and a 4-4-4 mark within the WCHA, following a pair of wins over Alaska Anchorage at home on Dec. 15-16. The Beavers offense is paced by Kyle Bauman with 19 points (6g-13a), while Michael Bitzer has made 17 starts in goal for a 2.41 goals against average and a .906 save percentage.
