HOME FINALES: The UAH women's basketball team will wrap up the 2016-17 home slate this week, welcoming Valdosta State on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. before hosting West Florida at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The Chargers enter the final pair of home games at 5-18 (4-14 Gulf South Conference).
Â
RECAPPING LAST WEEK: The Chargers split last week's road trip, starting with a 78-70 victory at West Alabama in which four different players scored in double figures, and the team closed the trip with a 64-58 setback that saw
Chandler Elder score 17, grab 12 rebounds, and dish out eight assists.
Â
NO SWAN SONG: Saturday's contest would typically mark a swan song for a group of Chargers playing their final game on the hardwood at Spragins, but this year's team features no seniors. This day a year from now, however, will be a different story as the team features a junior class that is five deep.
Â
ELDER ON FIRE: The performance at West Georgia was just the latest in a strong stretch for Elder who has scored in double figures in eight straight games to raise her scoring average to 11.2 points per game which is the highest mark for the junior since the team's opening game of the year. Elder's double-double at UWG was her sixth of the season, and the eight assists marked a season-high.
Â
ABOUT VALDOSTA STATE: The Blazers travel to Huntsville as the No. 2 team in the conference standings with a 13-5 mark in league play to go along with a 16-8 overall record, and the team has won six straight. Four players are averaging double figures for VSU with Madi Mitchell's 16.4 points per game leading the way.
Â
SERIES HISTORY: Valdosta State won a 76-66 decision when the two teams met earlier this year in the Peach State on Jan. 2, and VSU now leads the all-time series by a 35-14 margin. Last year when the teams met in Huntsville, the Chargers were 49-47 winners.
Â
ABOUT WEST FLORIDA: UWF enters this week at the top of the league with a 14-4 GSC record and a 19-5 overall record going into Thursday night's game against North Alabama. Both of the leading scorers for the Argos are averaging double-doubles on the season as Toni Brewer is scoring 14.0 points per night to go with 11.8 rebounds per game, while Katie Bobos is scoring 12.2 points and grabbing 10.5 rebounds per contest.
Â
SERIES HISTORY: The Argos picked up a 71-52 victory in Pensacola on New Year's Eve, pushing West Florida ahead in the all-time series by a 28-26 margin. In Huntsville a year ago, the Chargers picked up a 68-65 win in overtime on national television.
