UAH Tripped Up in Series Opener at Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio | The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team fell in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association series opener by a final score of 7-0 at Bowling Green on Friday night at the BGSU Ice Center. UAH slips to 9-21-3 (9-14-3 WCHA), while BGSU improves to 16-17-2 (13-13-1 WCHA).
 
Turning Point
- Bowling Green notched an early 2-0 lead on Kevin Dufour's first two goals of his hat trick on the night at 9:37 and 14:28 of the first period as the hosts would take the opener 7-0 on Friday.
 
Inside the Box Score
- Following first intermission, Bowling Green was able to add to its lead with one goal in the second at 4:06 by Mitch McLain on the power play which would give the Falcons a 3-0 advangtage after 40 minutes.
- The Falcons pushed their lead to 5-0 as Adam Smith potted a power-play tally at 5:14 of the third before Dufour sealed his hat trick at 6:54 and put BGSU up 5-0.
- Two additional third-period goals by the Falcons' Frederic Letourneau at 18:52 and Alec Rauhauser at 19:29 gave the game its 7-0 final score.
- The Chargers put a total of 33 shots on goal in the contest, led by five shots on goal apiece by Kurt Gosselin, Josh Kestner and Cody Marooney.
- Senior Carmine Guerriero slipped to 1-8-0 on the season in goal, while totaling 34 saves in the contest.
 
Noteworthy
- Senior captain Brent Fletcher played in his now program-record 138th career game on Friday, besting the previous record set by Joel Bresciani at 137 games played from 1999-2003.
- This was Guerriero's first 30-plus save performance this season.
 
Next Time Out
- UAH and Bowling Green wrap up the 2016-17 regular season with the series finale on Saturday at 6:07 p.m. CST.
 
- The Chargers sit at ninth place in the league with 30 points entering Saturday's slate, trailing Northern Michigan – who plays at Michigan Tech on Saturday – in eighth with 31 points. The top eight teams from league play earn WCHA playoff berths, which are held on March 3-5 at campus sites.
