PENSACOLA, Fla. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville tennis teams were in action on Saturday with the men's team falling to conference foe No. 9 West Florida 9-0 while the women's team dropped a non-conference match to Rollins by a 7-2 score.

The women fall to 3-5 on the season, while the men drop to 4-5 (0-2 Gulf South Conference).

In the women's game, the Chargers jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles as the second pairing of
Marleen Gort and
Naomi Esteve teamed up for a comfortable 8-2 win, while the top duo of
Aniek Remmerswaal and
Sarah Stearman gutted out a 9-7 victory.

The Tars then took all the points in singles action to secure the 7-2 win, but the Chargers did not go down without a fight.

At the fourth position, Remmerswaal won the opening set 7-5 before falling 6-3, 6-2, while the No. 5 match also went three sets with Stearman ultimately falling 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. At the top position, Gort fell 6-4 in the opener before dropping a tight 7-5 decision in the second, and Esteve battled in falling 7-6, 6-2.

In the men's match, UAH battled in the doubles action before eventually falling behind 3-0. At the No. 2 in doubles,
Noah Pring and
Elliot Hopson fought tough in a 9-7 setback, while the top pairing of
Timo Christen and
Sebastian Rohrbach fell 8-4.

Rohrbach then in singles play took more games off his opponent than any other Charger on the day, falling 6-4, 6-2 at the third spot, while Christen rebounded from a 6-0 opener to fall by a closer 7-5 score in the second at the fourth position. Hopson matched that by taking five games in the No. 5 match, falling 6-1, 6-4.

The women's team will return to action on Sunday when it takes on West Florida, and the men are back at it on Saturday against Delta State in Huntsville.
