Two Third-Period Goals Lift UAH to 4-2 Win at UAA

Box Score ANCHORAGE, Alaska | Highlighted by a pair of third-period goals, The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team opened a WCHA series at Alaska Anchorage with a 4-2 victory on Friday night at Sullivan Arena. UAH improves to 8-15-2 (7-10-2 WCHA), while UAA slips to 1-16-4 (1-11-3 WCHA).
 
Turning Point
- After the Seawolves' Nicolas Erb-Ekholm evened the game at 2-2 at 9:48 of the third period, UAH pulled ahead on Levi Wunder's second goal of the season at 17:05 of the frame on the way to the 4-2 series-opening victory.
 
Scoring Breakdown
- The Chargers broke the scoreless tie early into the first period as Hans Gorowsky tipped in a centering pass by Wunder at 3:54 of the opening stanza. Wunder and Josh Kestner each registered their fifth assists of the season on the play.
- Following first intermission, UAH pushed its lead to 2-0 as Brennan Saulnier wristed his eighth goal of the season past UAA goalie Olivier Mantha on the power play at 4:14 of the second. Kurt Gosselin and Cam Knight were credited with assists on Saulnier's goal.
- It didn't take long after UAH's second goal of the game for Alaska Anchorage to find the scoreboard as Austin Azurdia converted a power-play chance at 5:33 of the second.
- UAA tied the contest up at 2-2 on Erb-Ekholm's tally at 9:48 of the third before Wunder sent in a rebound off Gorowsky's shot at 17:05 of the final period to regain the lead at 3-2.
- The Chargers capped off the win on an empty-net goal by Kestner at 19:59 to give him a team-high 16 goals in 2017-18.

- Kestner – a Huntsville native – paced the offense with three points on one goal and two assists, followed by Gorowsky and Wunder with two points on a goal and an assist each.
- Kestner additionally led the team with a +3 rating on the ice.
- UAH generated 25 shots on goal, led by Gosselin's team-high six shots on goal.
- Kestner, John Teets, and Wunder followed Gosselin with three shots on goal apiece.
- Jordan Uhelski improved to 7-10-2 on the season, following an 18-save performance.

Noteworthy
- The Chargers have won back-to-back games for the first time in the 2017-18 WCHA slate.
- Kestner now has 16 goals this season to give him 36 in his career, which moves him to seventh in the program's modern Division I era.
- The senior has produced three-point games twice now this season with the other also coming against UAA earlier this season at home on Nov. 11 with two goals and an assist.
- Wunder registered two points in a game for the first time in his career and has also tallied a point in back-to-back games for the first time with UAH.
