UPCOMING WEEKEND: UAH (6-14-2, 5-9-2 WCHA) makes its first of two stops in the Last Frontier this upcoming weekend as the squad treks to Alaska Fairbanks (7-11-2, 5-8-1 WCHA) – who are guided by UAH hockey alum and first-year head coach Lance West (1991-95) – for WCHA matchups on Friday and Saturday night at 10:07 p.m. CT. This will be the Blue & White's first week in the state of Alaska, with next weekend being a trip down to Alaska Anchorage to wrap up the 12-game road swing.

RECENT ACTION: The Chargers are coming off a pair of losses at rival Bemidji State this past weekend by scores of 3-1 and 4-1 on Friday and Saturday, respectively, at the Sanford Center. Following the weekend set, UAH owns a 6-14-2 overall record and a 5-9-2 mark in WCHA games, giving the team seventh place in the conference standings entering the New Year with 18 league points.

MAINTAINING POTENCY: Huntsville native
Josh Kestner scored both of the Chargers goals over the weekend at the Beavers, which keeps the senior atop the roster with 18 points on a team-high 14 goals in addition to four assists. Kestner – who scored six times in the month of December – enters the weekend tied for fifth nationally and second in the WCHA with his 14 tallies, which includes a league-best 12 markers during the conference slate.

HELPING JUNIOR: Tyler Poulsen chipped in his team-leading 11th assist of the season in the series opener in Bemidji, which gives the junior 16 points in 2017-18 with the addition of his career-high five goals. Poulsen begins the week tied for 14th in the WCHA with his 11 helpers.

IN THE WAY: Cody Champagne moved into a tie for first in the WCHA this season with 41 blocks as a senior who headlines the roster which has totaled recorded a league-best 325 blocks in 2017-18. Seven Chargers have totaled 20 blocks or more as UAH also ranks second in the nation in blocks as a team.

LEADING CLASS: Fifth-year head coach
Mike Corbett's most successful overall class has been the squad's juniors so far in 2017-18, as the group has totaled 56 points from 17 goals and 39 assists to rate second amongst WCHA junior classes in overall points (56) and points per game (2.55). Poulsen leads all UAH juniors with 16 points (5g-11a), followed by
Cam Knight with nine points all on nine assists.

SERIES HISTORY: UAH holds an all-time series record of 8-21-2 against Alaska Fairbanks and 4-12-0 when visiting the Nanooks home ice, after the Chargers won the most recent matchup 4-1 in Fairbanks on Feb. 4, 2017. The two programs have met six times in the previous two seasons, with UAF holding a slight edge at 3-2-1.

NANOOKS PROFILE: Alaska Fairbanks – sitting in eighth in the league standings with 17 points – enters the weekend with a 7-11-2 overall record and a 5-8-1 record within the WCHA slate, following a series sweep of Alaska Anchorage on Dec. 8-9 by scores of 7-2 and 3-2. The Nanooks offense boasts six players with 10 points or more, headlined by Kylar Hope's 16 points (8g-8a), while Anton Martinsson has played the majority of time between the pipes with a 3.11 goals against average and a .893 save percentage.

LOOKING AHEAD: The Chargers 12-game road trip comes to an end next week with a trip to Alaska Anchorage on Jan. 12-13 before the squad heads home for the final eight games of the 2017-18 regular season. UAH will welcome Bemidji State (Jan. 26-27), Northern Michigan (Feb. 3-4), Minnesota State (Feb. 9-10) and Bowling Green (Feb. 23-24) as they wrap up the regular season down the stretch at the Von Braun Center.
