PENSACOLA, Fla. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team opens play at the 2018 Gulf South Conference Volleyball Championships on the campus of host West Florida on Friday at 6:30 p.m. as the No. 6 seed in a matchup against third-seeded Lee.

UAH is appearing in the GSC tournament for the 18th time in program history, including seven times in the past eight seasons. This will be UAH's first GSC tournament matchup against Lee, as the Flames recently became eligible for Division II postseason play in the 2014 campaign.

The Chargers eclipsed 20 wins for the second consecutive season with an overall record of 22-10, which is the first time the program has accomplished the feat since the 2004 and 2005 seasons. UAH finished the GSC slate with a 10-6 mark to earn the sixth seed in the GSC tournament.

UAH is paced by a pair of First Team All-GSC honorees, as Madison, Alabama, natives Isabelle Barnes and Haley Hop earned the distinction on Tuesday. Barnes finished the regular season ranked second in the GSC with a .332 hitting percentage on a team-high 280 kills to go along with 126 total blocks, while Hop rated second in the conference with 559 digs and 5.04 digs per set.

Hop became the program's career digs leader with a total of 2011 scoops entering the GSC tournament, and she's just one of seven GSC student-athletes to reach the 2000 dig milestone.

Lee has taken both matchups against UAH in the regular season, with a 3-2 win on Sept. 21 in Huntsville and a 3-0 victory on Oct. 23 in Cleveland, Tennessee. UAH now holds a 23-18 overall record against Lee.

UAH has a 23-21 all-time record when playing in the GSC tournament, having last won a match in the event in the 2013 campaign which was a 3-2 win over West Georgia.

The winner of the UAH/Lee matchup will play again on Saturday against No. 2 seed West Alabama at 4:30 p.m.
